Lara Callender Hogan. Lara is the Senior Engineering Manager of Performance at Etsy and the author of Designing for Performance, her attempt to empower designers to make smart decisions that positively impact page load time. She champions performance as a part of the overall user experience, striking a balance between aesthetics and speed, and building performance into company culture.
In addition to a lot of public speaking about mobile web and performance, she’s had a myriad of jobs, including running her own photography business, co-founding a LGBT wedding website, and a stint where she got certified to be an EMT.
Lara graduated college with degrees in Philosophy and Visual Media, which she quips “are just weird enough to equip someone to work in tech.” She also believes it’s important to celebrate career achievements with donuts.
